Legendary Cauliflower Steak

You think eating only vegetables is boring? Then be sure to try this legendary cauliflower steak. By searing it at the beginning, it gets delicious roasted flavors. The marinade makes the cauliflower steak nice and spicy and baking it in the oven gives it a great texture.

For you to succeed with this recipe, the most important thing is to have a nice big cauliflower. The bigger the cauliflower, the more steaks you can cut out. Here it is important that you take care to cut out the steaks at the stalk. Otherwise, the cauliflower will fall apart into individual florets.

After you cut out your cauliflower steaks, let’s add some spice! First, salt your steaks on both sides. It’s best to rub the salt in a bit, too. Now it’s time to get hot! Heat a skillet and cook your steaks on high heat. The cauliflower steaks should have brown spots on both sides, but of course you don’t want them to burn.

The roasted flavors make the steaks especially delicious! But now, of course, comes the marinade. To do this, mix oil with turmeric, paprika spice and curry with vegetable oil. Of course, you can vary the spices to your liking. I like the combination of curry and cauliflower very much. And the turmeric gives the vegetables a great color. This marinade is used to coat your steaks before they are cooked in the oven to top it off.

Cooking in the oven has the advantage that the cauliflower does not become too soft and flabby. It remains stable and becomes a little crispy on the outside.

When the vegetables are soft, they are done!
Cauliflower steaks make a great side dish or centerpiece of a meal. They go great with salad, potatoes, or even rice and bread.

Why Cauliflower instead of a Meat Steak?

Cauliflower is a particularly healthy vegetable that contains a lot of vitamin C and K, as well as various minerals. It is also very high in protein and is therefore ideal as a vegetarian main course. Due to the ingredients it contains, cauliflower also has a diuretic and blood pressure lowering effect.

  • 1 Large Cauliflower

  • 5 Tbsp. Vegetable Oil

  • 1/2 tsp Curry

  • 1 tsp Turmeric

  • 1 tsp Paprika

  • Salt


  • Cut 2-3 cm thick steak slices out of the cauliflower at the stalk.
  • Salt the steak slices on both sides.
  • Fry the steaks on both sides in the pan until brown.
  • For the marinade, mix Vegetable Oil with curry, turmeric and paprika.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper and coat with the marinade, place the roasted steaks on top and coat the steaks with the marinade as well.
  • Bake the steaks for about 20 minutes at 180°C.
