Everyone likes French toast for breakfast, right? So why not try vegan French toast? Of course, the plant-based alternative tastes at least as good as the original. Here in my recipe, I made French toast for Valentine’s Day. To do this, I cut out heart shapes from slices of bread to create little vegan French toast bites. Yum!
French toast is a delicious breakfast that is quick and easy to prepare. That’s because you don’t need more than 10 minutes until your sweet treat is ready. Usually made with milk and egg, you can of course make the sweet treat plant-based.
To get the most out of French toast, you’ll want to follow a few simple steps. Use a high-quality bread that is a little dry. A fresh, soft bread often tends to fall apart when dipped in the batter. Cut the bread into thick slices.
For the vegan French toast alternative, you’ll need: plant milk, chickpea flour, cinnamon, sugar or another sweetener, a little salt and nutmeg. Mix all the ingredients together to make a smooth batter and then put the slices of bread in it, turning them in the batter and leaving them in the batter for a moment so that the bread soaks it up.
Then fry the fully soaked bread slices for about 4 sides per side on medium heat together with some oil or butter in a pan. Please don’t use too much oil or butter, a little bit is enough here to make your vegan French toast bites brown nicely.
As a topping for your vegan French toasts are particularly suitable fruits, nut butter or vegan cream cheese. Just try different toppings to make your vegan French toast an unforgettable breakfast.
I came up with a little something extra for my Valentine’s Day variation. I fried two slices of bread together at a time. In between the slices of bread was homemade chocolate spread. You can also find the recipe for the delicious vegan chocolate spread on my blog. Feel free to get creative here, too. Instead of chocolate, you could use jam or nut butter.
